Is Your Site Ready for DEFRA’s Digital Waste Tracking?

June 2026

Is your waste‑receiving operation ready for the UK’s mandatory Digital Waste Tracking rollout?
From October 2026, all waste‑receiving sites in England, Wales and Northern Ireland — and from January 2027 in Scotland — will be legally required to submit waste‑movement data through the UK Government’s new DEFRA Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) Service. This marks one of the most significant regulatory shifts in the waste sector in decades, aiming to create a unified, transparent, and real‑time national record of waste movements.

At PRECIA MOLEN UK, we are committed to ensuring our customers stay ahead of these changes. That’s why we are launching a new DEFRA‑compliant module for our TruckFlow weighbridge software, available from August 2026, giving sites ample time to prepare before the regulation becomes mandatory.

Integration with the DEFRA Receipt of Waste API

The new regulation requires waste receivers to submit detailed information for every incoming load — including carrier details, EWC codes, hazardous properties, POPs data, container types, recovery/disposal codes, and more.

Our upcoming TruckFlow module has been engineered to integrate directly with the DEFRA Receipt of Waste API, enabling:

  • Automatic daily import of DEFRA‑approved reference lists (EWC codes, hazardous property codes, POP names, container types, disposal/recovery codes) “These lists are pre-defined by DEFRA to avoid errors in digital waste tracking reporting.”
  • Automatic export of waste movements immediately after the final weight is recorded “It is planned for Truckflow to automatically export waste movements without user intervention shortly after the final weight is recorded.”
  • Secure storage of DEFRA responses, including tracking IDs and error messages “Truckflow will store the returned waste tracking ID or any related error message against the weighing record.”

This ensures full traceability, compliance, and peace of mind — without adding administrative burden to your weighbridge teams.

Designed for Real‑World Weighbridge Operations

The DEFRA module builds on the existing TruckFlow workflow, preserving the familiar weighing process while adding the required regulatory fields.

Key features include:
  • Enhanced weighing screens for incoming waste
  • Dedicated pop‑ups for hazardous waste and POPs concentration data
  • Automatic validation to prevent incomplete submissions
  • A new DWT tab in the weighing file for reviewing submitted data and DEFRA responses
  • Operator‑only handling of hazardous and POP‑containing wastes “Truckflow will not display hazardous wastes or wastes containing POPs on a driver terminal due to the complexity of the required information.”

ensure that your site captures every mandatory field — accurately, consistently, and in line with DEFRA’s expectations.

Why This Matters for Your Organisation

The UK Government has made digital waste tracking mandatory to:

  • Reduce illegal waste activity
  • Improve national data accuracy
  • Strengthen environmental protection
  • Increase transparency across the waste chain

Learn more about the regulatory context

By adopting the TruckFlow DEFRA module ahead of the deadline, your site will:

  • Avoid last‑minute compliance pressure
  • Reduce manual data entry and Excel uploads
  • Ensure consistent, error‑free reporting
  • Maintain operational efficiency during the transition
  • Benefit from Precia Molen’s ongoing support and updates

Available August 2026

Ready for October Compliance

Our development teams in the UK and Europe have worked closely with DEFRA’s published API specifications to ensure full alignment with Phase 1 requirements for waste receivers.

The module will be available as an optional TruckFlow add‑on, compatible with existing installations that meet the minimum hardware and software specifications.

If you are already using TruckFlow, upgrading will be straightforward. If you are planning a new installation, our teams can guide you through the best configuration for long‑term compliance.

Stay Ahead of the Regulation

The countdown to mandatory digital waste tracking has begun. With the TruckFlow DEFRA module, your organisation can transition smoothly, confidently, and on time — with a solution designed specifically for the realities of weighbridge operations.
